Nita Enhances Biogas Installer Training With New Curriculum

Wednesday 12th February 2025 saw the long awaited biodigester curriculum validated at the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA)!  This curriculum was developed to address the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the installation and maintenance of biogas systems. The historical lack of structured training programs for Biogas systems installers has contributed to a slow adoption of biodigesters and the professionalization of its workforce.  

NITA developed a training curriculum with the support of GIZ through the African Biodigester Component (ABC) and the Employment promotion for women for the green transformation in Africa (WE4D), alongside other key stakeholders in the renewable energy industry.  This curriculum aligns with the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) and aims to establish standardized training and certification for Biogas Systems Installers in Kenya.

To further bolster NITA's capacity to deliver this training, the ABC provided essential training tools, which were officially handed over to NITA by representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Kenya (#MoEP). The event also featured the successful commissioning of the biodigester constructed by the first trained cohort of 25 students.

This development marks a pivotal step towards promoting sustainable energy solutions and enhancing the skills of professionals in Kenya's renewable energy sector.
